Bay Mills off-reservation casino still under scrutiny in Michigan

Officials in Michigan are still reviewing the legality of the Bay Mills Indian Community off-reservation casino.

The tribe opened the casino on November 3. The site hasn't been placed in trust but state and federal officials haven't taken a position on it so far.

However, Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) remains "deeply concerned" about the casino, a spokesperson told the Associated Press.

Other tribes contend the facility is illegal. But Bay Mills says it's entitled to open a casino in connection with a land claim settlement.
